Ephemeral Icon - Scanned Polaroid Emulsion Lift
This is a Polaroid image of the Gold Statue of Winged Victory atop the Queen Victoria Monument in front of Buckingham Palace. The process I chose for this echoes both the movement the wings provide and the ephemeral quality of victory and, with the imperfect white background and distressed and damaged frame, a reality check of what that victory costs. This was a Polaroid image that I then made into an emulsion lift, scanned, enlarged, printed and then painted the background.
