Coffeeshop Dispatch Vol. 9

Greetings from the coffeeshop. I’m here with a large Americano, 2 sugars, no cream contemplating what my next move is. This week between Christmas and New Year’s where we don’t know what day it is or what time it is is kinda my favorite time of the year. It’s such a break from the rigidity we live in and I love the fluidity of it especially with my brain! I love having time to take a look at all the cool things I could be planning for especially when the weather keeps us more indoors. While I’m not a big resolution person, I am a fan of finding what excites me and carrying that over the threshold of the new year as an intention. I think it’s a great way to shift your energy from the old to the new and man, we all need some new energy after 2025, right?

I’m super inspired and creative during this time of year and want to take full advantage of it so the whole month of January is going to be a deep dive away from screens as much as possible and into what inspired me as I plan my year. That said I don’t remember if I made my bed today. It’s all about balance, right? LOL!!!

Here’s what I’ve been up to this past week:

New Studio Journal

While I do love the flexibility of this time I do need to create structure for myself and so of course I have worked on a new studio journal for the new year. I cannot abide by rigid or un-aesthetic designs that don’t have a little irreverence to them. So I decided to use these stickers from the Ransom Note Sticker Book to make my year at a glance page. You’re never too old to make a arduous task tolerable and stickers always help! I’ve been sharing some of my hand made junk journals lately on my IG and will be for sure sharing more from my sketchbooks and workbooks soon too!

My Christmas present to myself

While I have a printer at the studio I still needed one at home for days I don’t go in but still need to work on a project. This is the Liene Amber 4x6” Instant Photo Printer M100 and I love it! It’s a very comfortable small size for my place and the images are STUNNING! I’m playing around with some small works and some zine making so the prints from this will for sure be included soon.

Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates

I did a Friendsmas with a couple of my girlfriends last week and was so excited to cook I attempted these yummy goat cheese stuffed dates. Now, full disclosure I didn’t watch the clock close enough and since these suckers are mostly sugar they heated up really quick! I didn’t burn them per se, but since they turned out too crunchy to be a comfortable appetizer I decided to chop them up and toss them in the Kale Salad I’d made and it was DELICIOUS!!! I tweaked the recipe slightly since I didn’t have any rosemary I just used a spiced honey I’d made with the walnuts. Win win!!!

So, I’m making progress on showing myself in front of the camera as opposed to hiding behind it. The gateway for me doing this is sharing my studio fits and it’s actually been really fun to edit the videos. I’ll be the first person to admit I’m very trepidatious about this. But with huge life transitions my social battery was more like a rubber band, flexible but when stretched too far it snaps and is rendered useless. I was that rubber band the past few years. But I think I’m finally ready to connect more and this feels like a really fun and relatable way to do it for me. FYI I’m over 6’ tall so finding my own style has been both a challenge and really fun! This is why I make my own tshirts!!! And you thought this was just a photography blog. LOL! :)
